The result of creative collaboration by Papaya Playa Project’s Record Label KM 4.5, Star Collector by Cocolab, and celebrated DJ and producer Mathew Jonson will be featured on MUTEK Montréal, which begins on August 24th.
The Star Collector creates a visible link between Earth and the stars. It is a reflection of our cosmic origin and our soul’s ability to travel beyond physical boundaries. The collaboration resulted in a profoundly moving experience of sound, light, jungle, emotion, and spirit.
A respected and celebrated producer and DJ, Mathew has a very distinctive voice in electronic dance music with a rare fusion of populist intensities and nuanced musicality.
His discography spans many classics and has remixed Goldie, Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, Moby, Nelly Furtado, and VCMG (Vince Clarke & Martin Gore). Both on stage and in the studio, Jonson's fealty to analog equipment and real-time playing serves as a standard-bearer for a kind of electronic music that goes way beyond the drag 'n' drop world of digital composition.
Many musicians have orchestrated aural adventures with their sounds since 2011 at Papaya Playa Project. Our unique landscape not only inspires creative freedom, it demands it - with its undefined mystique able to be molded as a platform for all kinds of musical experiences. Our record label KM 4.5 is dedicated to supporting musical adventures by an eclectic mix of global artists.
Throughout the year, Papaya Playa Project welcomes contemporary artists to live and play on our grounds. Their work is infused with our land, creative energy, and the life force around our project.
We will feature the work of a renowned contemporary artist every two months, allowing for our property to inspire and be the pace for collaboration and creation.
This fantastic installation created by Cocolab tells the story of our common origin, creating a beautiful narrative about our shared heritage. Everything in this world: plants, animals, stone and sea, human beings, and wind, is made from stardust.
The experience begins walking in the dark jungle, revealing the hidden universe. Sound and energy follow us until we reach the beach. A wooden structure holds a luminous sphere with pure energy from the universe, which runs to Earth through its roots.
