MAYAN HOMAGE

In the Mayan culture, houses were part of the ecosystem, they were even respected as if they were a living being that was connected with nature since they built their homes with natural materials typical of the region such as palm, earth, wood, plants, etc.

Since Papaya Playa Project was thought, it was done with the intention of respecting and honoring the Mayan culture, that is why each construction element has a purpose of connecting us with our ancestors, the elements and with ourselves

LIVING IN NATURE

We strive to create spaces that respect nature by preserving 90% of our land as the original jungle. We even keep trees within our spaces to respect their growth and history.

CHUKUM

We've adopted the ancient Maya technique of using the resin of the Chukum tree to cool our buildings sustainably. The native material's natural coloring eliminates the need for artificial dyes and coatings, while its water-resistant properties make it a cost-effective and eco-friendly option for the Yucatan region. The technique's revival also honors the cultural significance of Mayan heritage in the area.

We have carefully placed all the lights around the property to create an ambiance that will transport you to a world where the stars are the real protagonists. By honoring the Mayan culture, we have designed this experience to allow you to connect with the natural world, to truly understand and appreciate the beauty of the jungle at night, to feel the wonder of the universe.

‍We hope to encourage you to pay attention to your surroundings, to be fully present in the moment, and to appreciate the true beauty of the natural world. Let the stars be your guide.

We want to create a space for everyone to let their imagination and creativity explore new limits. We support artists and creative people placing art pieces around the property with the intention of giving inspiration to our guests.

ASTRONOMIC EXPERIENCE

We’ve placed a terrace in every casita design to honour the Mayan culture, known for their great astronomical knowledge and belief in celestial guardians. They used observatories, shadow-casting devices, and observations of the horizon to trace the complex motions of the sun, the stars and planets in order to observe, calculate and record this information in their chronicles. Our intention is for you to connect with the universe in a way that's truly unforgettable. Let the stars shine down on you and take you to a place of wonder and magic.

CONNECT WITH THE OCEAN AT “ROCA” OUR GUEST ONLY BEACH CLUB

We believe that the sound of the ocean waves is music in itself, and we want you to fully immerse yourself in its calming melody. By eliminating music from our space, we encourage our guests to focus on their senses and to embrace the peaceful flow of the water element around us. We want you to experience the ultimate connection with nature, and we hope that the sound of the ocean will be the perfect accompaniment to your beach getaway.

FAUNA

One of our missions is to preserve the environment as naturally and intact as possible. We recognize that the first inhabitants of this land are the native animals of the region, which is why we have a mission to protect and conserve the ecosystem where all these species live. As a hotel guest, you will probably encounter raccoons, monkeys, woodpeckers, coatis, toucans, iguanas, and other species that inhabit the property. These species are harmless and typically seek shelter and food within the property.

While some of these species may be friendly and like to interact with humans, we do not recommend offering them food for their safety and the safety of our guests.
